The United Kingdom Accreditation Service is the sole national accreditation body recognised by government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates the competence, impartiality and performance capability of these evaluators. UKAS is a non-profit-distributing company, limited by guarantee, and operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government through the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
The two certification bodies, NSF Certification (NSF) and Organic Farmers & Growers (OF & G), who have been appointed by REAL to assess Biogas Plants, are accredited with UKAS as organisations, and are also in the process of gaining specific accreditation from UKAS for the Biofertiliser Certification Scheme. This will mean that the certificate awarded to the plant will be fully accredited.
Now that both certifying bodies have successfully certified an AD Plant, the process of accreditation of the BCS by UKAS is in progress.
