The Scheme Rules contain the operating procedures of the BCS for the licensing and use of digested products.
REAL has sought to provide a suitable and robust scheme framework given the continued diversification of the AD/biogas industry and increased participation in this scheme. The rules have been reviewed and endorsed by REAL's Biofertiliser Certification Technical Advisory Committee.
Scheme Rules Version 6.1
The latest version of our scheme rules is version 6.1, which was issued on 20th October 2025 and is available here. The new Scheme Rules supersedes the old version.
Annex Updates While the main body of the Scheme Rules (Version 6.1) remains as issued on 20th October 2025, please note that the nation specific annexes were last updated on 27th January 2026. These annexes (Annex 1 to 4) define the particular requirements for achieving 'End of Waste' status in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland respectively.
