REAL’s Biofertiliser Certification Scheme
Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd (REAL) operates and owns the Biofertiliser Certification Scheme (BCS). The BCS independently assesses and certifies anaerobic digestate to PAS 110, the BCS Scheme Rules, and the relevant national end-of-waste framework: the Anaerobic Digestate Resource Framework (ADRF) for England, the Anaerobic Digestion Quality Protocol (ADQP) for Wales and Northern Ireland, or the SEPA Position Statement for Scotland.
Digestate assessed as compliant with these requirements achieves End-of-Waste status, meaning it is considered a product and is no longer subject to waste controls.
