Pasteurisation under PAS110 & ADQP & ASRS

Posted: 17 April, 2011. Written by David Collins

In recent weeks we have noted from incoming queries that some plant operators and developers are not aware that pasteurisation is the default requirement under section 7.2 of the PAS110 and that this applies not only to ABPR wastes but also to non wastes including crops. The main exception to this rule is where certain restricted input materials, which are derived from farm generated materials, are both sourced from and spread within the premises/holding.

Furthermore, the current WRAP sponsored project by Cranfield University to develop a new Matrix for the use of biofertiliser (digestate that has passed the PAS110 and ADQP) is likely to reinforce and tighten the pasteurisation requirements in order to protect human, plant and animal health.

Pasteurisation is not the only factor to take into account in plant design; other recently highlighted factors have been compliance with the residual biogas potential test and digestate storage and separation. We would welcome contact by plant operators, developers and those planning biogas facilties who would like to discuss the practical application of PAS110, ADQP and the additional rules for Scotland as it affects plant design or operation.
