Scottish Environment Protection Agency's Regulatory Position Statement

Scotland has not, to date, adopted the Anaerobic Digestion Quality Protocol. However, in this country, digestate derived from AD processes that comply with PAS 110's requirements may in some circumstances be considered fully recovered by the regulator.

ADQP

Anaerobic Digestate Quality Protocol

The Anaerobic Digestate Quality Protocol (ADQP) sets out the end-of-waste criteria for the production and use of quality outputs from anaerobic digestion of source-segregated biodegradable waste.

Operators producing digestate for use in Wales and Northern Ireland as a ‘product’ must demonstrate compliance with the ADQP.

Anaerobic Digestate Resource Framework

The Anaerobic Digestate Resource Framework (ADRF) sets out the end-of-waste criteria for the production, storage, and use of quality outputs from anaerobic digestion of source-segregated biodegradable waste in England.

Operators producing digestate for use in England as a ‘product’ must comply with the ADRF to ensure their material meets the required standards for safe and sustainable use.
