New SEPA Position Statement

Posted: 22 December, 2011. Written by David Collins

SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) has issued revised version of SEPA’s position on the classification of outputs from AD processes. You can find the document on the Biofertiliser Certification Scheme website.

The main changes from the previous positions are:
• the inclusion of specified leather industry wastes (as acceptable under the ADQP)
• the list of wastes from the ADQP has been added as a reference of acceptable inputs.

There is flexibility to discuss additional inputs with SEPA (who will consult with other regulatory bodies in Scotland). The list of additional input materials will be kept up to date with changes clearly indicated. This is a much more flexible system than in England, Wales and NI, where the wastes are listed in the ADQP, which is only reviewed every two years or more.

The position document also includes the SEPA position on the use of outputs from plants treating agricultural wastes.
