An exciting opportunity to be involved in organics recycling

We are looking for a dedicated and self-motivated Research and Communications Assistant to support the Biofertiliser and Compost Certification Schemes. Reporting to the Head of Certification Schemes, you will work within the Certification Schemes team at REAL. If you think you are well organised and have good attention to detail, please do get in touch.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • ensuring timely communication with schemes’ internal and external stakeholders;
  • managing the database for recording information about plants and products certified under the Schemes;
  • delivering scheme-related research projects and analysing relevant legislation.

Essential requirements for the role include:

  • education to degree or equivalent level;
  • ability to work as part of a team and in a collaborative environment;
  • proven analytical and organizational skills.

Desirable requirements for the role include:

  • good knowledge of MS Office;
  • a good understanding of the circular economy principles;
  • availability to work in central London.

This is an opportunity to work with a smart team led by experienced management. You will have the chance to learn on the job and to take your own initiative and shape the Schemes’ growth and development.

We are offering this role on a one-year contract which is extendable. The salary is in the region of £25,000 per annum, with 25 days’ paid holiday.

REAL and Certification Schemes

Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd (REAL) carries out certification and consumer protection activities which promote renewable energy and the circular economy. Currently REAL administers seven schemes: two consumer codes, four certification schemes and one ID registry: www.realschemes.org.uk.

The Compost Certification Scheme (CCS) and the Biofertiliser Certification Scheme (BCS) provides assurance to consumers, farmers, food producers, and retailers that quality compost produced from composting processes (CCS) and digestate produced from anaerobic digestion (BCS) are safe for human, animal and plant health. Quality Compost is the name adopted for the compost that is certified under the CCS for end-of-waste and quality assured status or quality assured status. Biofertiliser is the name adopted for the digestate that is certified under the BCS for end-of-waste and quality assured status or quality assured status.
